I can't believe it's already been three years (isn't that what we say when our babes have a birthday, too?!)!

How it all began

Sun & Lace started in August of 2015, shortly after I moved into my role as a stay-at-home mom. I've always enjoyed crafting and creating things, and I was fortunate enough that my mom nurtured my creativity while I was growing up. I made my first pair of "shoes" when I was about ten years old from cardboard, glue and scraps of fabric. Needless to say, they didn't hold up very well!

Fast forward to many years later when I had a child of my own, I sewed many things for him while I was nesting, including his going-home outfit. When the colder months came and he needed his feet covered, I searched for unique, quality shoes and just wasn't finding what I was looking for. Thus, I made him a pair of railroad stripe moccs and paired them with all his outfits (I have a thing for stripes!). Friends said I should sell them, and so I did some market research and decided there was a place on Etsy for my style of moccs. 

The name "Sun & Lace" came to me one beautiful day after moving to our new home in the summer of 2015. The sun was shining and our land was full of the Queen Anne's Lace flower - and there it was, "Sun & Lace."

The journey

I planned on taking the first year slowly and then ramping things up in the second year. By golly, did things pick up in October 2016! My second son was born in September and I was on the hunt for a bonnet. That's when I came across Sweet as April and we became fast friends. She introduced me to some lovely mommy-daughter duos to help spread the word about my shoes on Instagram. 

I did my first makers market in December of 2016 and I fell in love with meeting fans in person and talking about my craft. I quickly signed up for about ten more for the following year.

Then came the boots in August of 2017. The boots, I tell ya, were the real kick-off for my brand. They're now my signature shoe! I have a lot of fun picking out fabric for the laces and seeing how you guys style them. 

And here the shop is today, in August of 2018, with lots of exciting things planned for the rest of the year! I'll be launching a new logo and branding this month in celebration, too!
